The City of Arnold has various boards and commissions that assist in governing the city. All appointments are made by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. Applications can be picked up at City Hall or for more information call 636-296-5940.

The Aging and Disabilities Commission - established to address the needs of the senior and disabled population in Arnold. The Commission consists of one member from each of the four wards, an at-large member, a representative from the senior population; a representative from the disabled population; one from a community organization serving seniors and one form the a community organization serving the disabled. Terms are for three years and are staggered. The commission meets on a regular basis.

Board of Adjustment - hears zoning appeals and decides if variances from the Zoning Code are warranted. There are five appointments with five-year terms and two alternates chosen with two-year terms. One of the five-year term appointments expires every year. The board meets on an as-needed basis.

Building Appeals Board – resolves cases of residential and commercial parties who disagree with the City’s Building Code. There are three positions on the Board, all with one-year terms. One alternate is also chosen. Board members meet on an as-needed basis.

Economic Development Commission - stimulates economic development in the city. The commission consists of 10 members including the mayor and the city administrator, a representative from the Planning Commission, the Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Commission, one business executive and four residents. Terms are four years and are staggered. The commission meets on a regular basis.

Liquor Committee - Three council members comprise the Liqour Committee, which is charged with the responsibility of reviewing applications for liqour licenses and recommending action in favor or against the application to the full city council.

Park and Open Space Advisory Board – promotes the general welfare of the community and provides enjoyable outdoor spaces and activities within the city. The board is made up of eight citizen representatives, such that there are two representatives from each of the city’s four wards. There is one citizen representative chosen from the city at-large. Terms are for three years and are staggered. The commission meets on a regular basis.

Personnel Board of Review – hears employee appeals pursuant to the grievance procedures adopted by the City Council. There are three positions each with three-year terms. One term expires every year. The board meets as needed.

Planning Commission - recommends regulations governing the subdivision of land within its jurisdiction. Two positions are appointed from each of the four wards. The positions are four-year terms, with two positions rotating out each year. There is also a member-at-large appointment. Meetings are normally held twice a month at City Hall. The Mayor, a Council representative, and the Community Development Director are also members.

Police Personnel Board – gives examinations to candidates for the police department, as well as examinations for appointment or promotions within the police department. Resolves appeals from suspensions or terminations of sworn officers. There are five positions on the Board, with two of the two-year terms rotating out every year. The Board meets on an as-needed basis and is paid $12.50 per day while in session.

Public Facilities Corporation – acquires property on behalf of City of Arnold. There are three appointments that serve three years, with one term expiring every year. Meetings are held once a year in November.

Recreation and Fitness Advisory Board - promotes the general welfare of the community and provides enjoyable recreational facilities and fitness activities within the city. The board is made up of four citizen representatives, such that there is one representative from each of the city’s four wards. There are five citizen representatives chosen from the city at-large. Terms are for three years and are staggered. The commission meets on a regular basis.

Tourism Commission - promotes tourism in the city. The tourism commission consists of five members, including a representative of the hotel/motel industry, two active in the tourism industry and two business executives. Terms are three years. The commission meets on a regular basis.
