The Arnold K-9 unit has been in existence since 1995. In 2002, the police
department purchased three new police dogs. The canine unit is responsible for
finding and seizing illegal narcotics. The dogs are also available for tracking lost persons and fugitives from justice.
Through the forfeiture of property, the Police Department has been able to purchase equipment and police vehicles.
One of the dogs is specifically trained to locate bombs. In a cooperative
agreement with the National Imaging and Mapping Agency, the city agreed to
provide a bomb-sniffing dog that could be used in an emergency situation.
