2019-05-30T12:35:22-06:00 May 30th, 2019|Latest News|

May 30, 2019 – From the City of Arnold Office of Emergency Management – As of 10 AM today, we have opened the Emergency Operations Center, due to the flood.

We have been in contact with The National Weather Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, and The United States Geological Service (USGS). The Meramec River is going to a level of 41.5 feet by next Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The Mississippi River is going to 46 feet.

We have used a tool from the USGS, called the flood inundation mapper, which maps the area and the level at which the river will rise within the City of Arnold. You can view the mapper here.

Today we will have officers talking to residents who may be directly affected by the floodwater. The City of Arnold Department of Public Works will be providing sand, bags, etc. to those residences. We request that those homes not directly affected to allow the homes that will be affected to use the sand, bags, etc. Please be a good neighbor and do not take the items from your neighbors that need them.

Meramec River Cresting Lower Than Originally Predicted

2019-05-03T15:34:56-06:00 May 3rd, 2019|Latest News|

May 3 Meramec River FloodFrom the City of Arnold Emergency Management – The Meramec River is not going to crest as high as originally predicted.

There are several reasons why the crest is lower and we are lucky not to have any residents impacted directly by floodwater.

According to the National Weather Service, the next two weeks will have periods of rain. It looks like next Monday through Wednesday. May 10-12 and May 16-18. Remember these are approximate dates.

The Meramec River will remain above flood stage for several weeks and may not fall below flood stage until sometime in June. Again, this is all dependent on how much rain we receive in the coming weeks.

We will continue to watch the river level and take appropriate action when needed.

The City of Arnold Emergency Management is collaborating with the National Weather Service to help prepare our residents in the event of an emergency. For more information go to:  https://www.weather.gov/wrn/

City of Arnold Emergency Management Monitoring Meramec River

2019-05-02T21:57:21-06:00 May 2nd, 2019|Latest News|

Flood Management 5-2-19

The City of Arnold Emergency Management is closely monitoring the Meramec River.

According to predictions from the National Weather Service and USGS information, the Meramec River will crest on May 6, 2019 at 39.9 feet.

We have looked at a lot of information and learned from previous history of flooding in the City of Arnold. At 39 feet, there are no residences directly affected by floodwater. Water may reach into yards, but still a safe distance from homes. We will continue to monitor the river and provide updated information as needed. If you are in any danger, call 911 or 636-296-2222 and request assistance. Do not call these numbers for sand, etc as these numbers are for emergencies. Again, we will be monitoring the river and determinewhen and if sand is needed. We will notify the City of Arnold Public Works for the areas that may be impacted.

Please like the City of Arnold Facebook page to keep up with the information, or you can view information on the City of Arnold website.

If you would like to view information about the Meramec River or surrounding rivers, go to weather.gov/lsx and click on the rivers/lakes tab.
