The Arnold Police Explorer Program is a dynamic, hands-on opportunity for young individuals ages 14–20 to explore a future career in law enforcement and public service. Sponsored by the Arnold Police Department and affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America and the Learning for Life initiative.  Our program is designed to educate, mentor, and empower youth through real-world training and community engagement.

As a Police Explorer, participants receive valuable insight into the duties and responsibilities of police officers. From traffic control to participating in community events and training scenarios, Explorers gain firsthand experience in a structured and supportive environment.  The Arnold Police Explorers train twice a month for approximately 2 hours each time.  Trainings usually falls on a Wednesday evening; however, is subject to change.  Explorers are expected to make a conscious effort to attend all meetings/trainings.

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS

Applicants for the position of Explorer should:

  • Be between the ages of fourteen (14) and twenty (20)
  • Be a resident of Jefferson County, Missouri
  • Be students/graduates or possess a GED or its equivalent
  • Have and be able to maintain a “C” or 2.0 grade point average
  • Have no serious arrests or convictions, or any violation deemed by the Post Advisors that violate the Explorer Code of Ethics
  • Belong to no other Law Enforcement Explorer Post
  • Have parental approval if you are under the age of 18 years old
  • Have a strong interest in law enforcement or public safety

PRE-INVESTIGATION OF APPLICANTS:

All Police Explorers are subject to criminal history background checks. An investigation to determine suitability shall be conducted by the post advisors to determine character and background of each candidate. Any applicant that does not pass the background investigation will not be accepted. Candidates with criminal records and questionable loyalty or morals shall be rejected.
