The City of Arnold has a very active Veterans Commission which consists of 7 voting members (5 Veterans and 2 Non-Veterans), 2 city council member liaisons and 2 non-voting veteran members.
The commission meets in the evening of the third Wednesday of each month at City Hall.
The commission works closely with the City’s Parks and Recreation Division.
Some recent accomplishments include assistance in sponsoring the annual Veteran’s Day Parade. The commission works with the city and with Fox School District to put on this annual event which includes a parade with Fox’s Marching Band, a luncheon for local Veteran’s and their families, and a program which includes veteran recognition, keynote speakers and patriotic assembly music provided by Fox School.

The commission worked closely with the Parks and Recreation Division to raise money and awareness to create our beautiful Veterans Memorial at the southern end of the Arnold recreation building. If you haven’t seen this memorial, please take a drive to the Recreation Center and see it. It’s particularly beautiful in the evening when it’s lite up.
The commission works with the Parks and Recreation Division to host a monthly Veterans Coffee at the recreation center every fourth Tuesday of the month from 9 – 11 am. Coffee and treats are provided. This event seems to be growing with each month, and the veterans enjoy talking with one another. They’ve also been reaching out to local care centers to connect with veterans for coffee and chatting.
The commission also sponsors a booth at the Arnold Days festival each year to raise awareness and raffle items to raise money for upcoming projects.
Some upcoming projects include the start of a Hometown Heroes Program which will honor local veterans with a posted banner. Participating in other local parades such as the upcoming Kimmswick Vietnam Veterans Parade on March 28th. They will also sponsor a table at the upcoming Rotary Sponsored Pancake Breakfast on March 7th at the 1st Baptist Church.
